Space presents unique challenges to human health with harmful radiation exposure, prolonged isolation/confinement, psychological stress, and microgravity. The size, mass and power requirements in the space environment necessitate innovations in nimble diagnostic techniques. Space medicine unites healthcare professionals, technologists, and scientists, alike, to generate critical knowledge about healthcare in space, with implications for long-duration space travel and for advancing healthcare in challenging environments on Earth. The serendipitous blend of biotech and medtech in space medicine can potentially result in significant translational and/or applied research breakthroughs. At UCLA Space Medicine, we're pioneering advances in human health, during this pivotal moment in space exploration. Come learn from our network of physicians and innovators as we establish a growing ecosystem dedicated to advancing space medicine with research, innovation, and breakthroughs that benefits all of humankind.
